The Cosmopolitan Club is a
student community for German
and international students to
connect friends from all nations.

The Student Council is the
elected board of the students of
the university. Two students of
each faculty are members.

• registration for courses and exams happen
  separately
• you can de-register from an exam one week
  before the exam date
• if you appear late for an exam, you won’t be
  granted extra time for the exam
• you have 3 attempts for each exam
• the 2nd attempt needs to happen within one
  year after the 1st attempt, otherwise you will fail
  the 2nd attempt
• the 3rd attempt needs to happen at the next
  possible date, the latest within one year after
  the 2nd attempt (usually at the end of a
  semester)
• if you haven’t passed any exam in 4 semesters,
  you will be unenrolled from your degree program
• if you surpass the regular study period (Bachelor
  6 semesters / Master 4 semesters) by more than
  4 semesters, your 1st attempt at the BA/MA
  thesis will be automatically graded with 5.0 and
  you’ll be charged long-term study fees (500 € per
  semester)
• you can’t repeat an exam that you have already
  passed (min. 4.0)
• if you’re sick, turn in the student affairs form
  for sick-notes from a doctor to the student
  affairs department within 5 days after the exam:

DEALING WITH CULTURE SHOCK

Some advise ...

• Periods of sadness are okay - they will pass!
• Be aware of your own normal
• Ask questions and don’t make assumptions
• Be curious about other worldviews
• Check if you were understood correctly / check if
  you understood everything correctly
• Treat others as they would like to be treated
• See difference as an added value
• Forgive (don’t forget) and learn from mistakes
• Be aware of slang, (in-)formal expressions
• Avoid but, instead use at the same time
• Own (mis)behaviour is frequently justified with
  situational factors (I am having a bad day today
  while the behaviour of the counterpart is generally
  explained using personal factors (He has a bad
  character).

appointment (for English please put incoming@hs-
mittweida.de in the CC) with answers to the following

1. What exactly would you like to do in your internship
/ job?

2. How flexible are you regarding the location of the
company / institution?

3. Do you already have a desired company /
institution you would like to work for?

4. When are you available for work (mention the next
possible start date) and how long should your
internship last?

5. Attach your CV (see recommendations in the video
above) - may the career service send your CV to
possible employers?

• you can switch from § 16 b to § 18 b AufenthG
  (German residence law)
• § 18 b is a job seeker visa for skilled workers
• you need a recognized foreign or a foreign
  university degree comparable to a German
  university degree

  are acquired during a course of study or qualified
